Trekking Punta Cannone Tavolara

Punta Cannone The Summit of Tavolara

Tavolara is located within the Marine Protected Area of Tavolara – Punta Coda Cavallo, between Olbia and San Teodoro. It is literally a mountain in the middle of the sea, a piece of the Dolomites that rises in the unique and crystalline sea of Sardinia. This is the island of Tavolara. A carbonate rock massif that reaches 600 meters high (565 meters above sea level).

The departure on nautical vehicles wearing technical boots and mountain equipment is curious. Once you land on the Spalmatore beach and take a few steps on the sand, the path begins which crosses a young forest of oaks, junipers and olive trees. The slope is already felt after the first steps which lead in about forty minutes to the first suggestive passage on an Iscala and Fustes.

The path then becomes gentler and allows you to enjoy a panorama which, for every meter gained above sea level, becomes increasingly vast and of incredible beauty.

Once you reach the "Tavolara meadow" (Sa Conca Durriata) you start the equipped part of the route which soon reaches the peak of Punta Cannone where the panorama extends from Capo Figari to Capo Comino, embracing the smaller islands of the marine area, Molara and Molarotto.

On clear days it is possible to see the mountains, snow-capped in the winter season, of Ospédale in Corsica.
The path is on a reciprocal route, so it will be followed in reverse to return to the beach where, when the weather permits, you can go for a swim and then return by dinghy to the port of Cala Finanza.
